Overview
This assignment will serve as your major research project and final exam for the course. It will be assigned in the course with ample time for you to conduct the research and complete the project by the established deadline in the final exam period
It will require you to conduct research on job descriptions and duties for an area in the internal operations area of intercollegiate athletics (see specific parts of the assignment listed below).
Instructions
Identify the area of internal operations you would like to research and clearly identify this area in your project: (academic advising/support, student-athlete development/enhancement, compliance, human resources and administration, business office, athletic training and wellness/nutrition, equipment management, strength and conditioning, senior woman administrator)
Use the “Job Descriptions-Internal Ops” document in the module as a guide
Locate and review two relevant job descriptions from university human resources websites, HigherEdJobs.com, NCAA.org (“Employment” section) or other job postings. Provide these job descriptions or a link to them in your project.
Develop interview questions about the job area, career, etc. that you want to ask your interview subject/submit interview questions to course instructor for approval.
Identify and make contact with a candidate for your research interview with the following conditions:
Cannot be someone at your current institution
Cannot be a coach
Cannot be one of your friends (the goal is to expand your network)
Introduce yourself via email in a professional manner and ask if she/he is willing to be interviewed either via video (zoom) or via email for your research project about internal operations in intercollegiate athletics
Grading/Assignment Criteria (35 points)
Part 1 – identification of the area you wish to research and explanation why you chose that area – 5
Part 2 – submission of interview questions to instructor for approval – 5
Part 3 – two job descriptions and overview of differences/similarities in the job duties – 5
Part 4 – transcript of interview question responses from interview – 10 (or video submission of interview)
Part 5 – analysis of interviewee’s job challenges/duties, personal opinion of internal operations area, what you would enjoy or not about this job, challenges, pros/cons – 5
Part 6 – reference list (interviews, source where job descriptions came from, anything else) – 5
(Note: if interviewee is employed at your current institution, is a coach or is your friend then = -10 points)
