MSN Professional Portfolio
Assignment Content
A professional portfolio is a collection of documents that provides the means to demonstrate competencies and expertise acquired through an educational and professional career. Electronic portfolios are one way to showcase work and provide a means of reflecting on goals and developmental milestones throughout your career and/or education. This week you construct your professional, electronic portfolio that you will use for the rest of the MSN program.
Step 1: Create or add to your electronic portfolio
If you have not yet created your portfolio using Microsoft Sway, click the “…” menu and select “Duplicate this Sway” to make a copy of the Nurse Leader Portfolio Sway Template for your portfolio.
The template will assist you in creating your portfolio. If you have already created your portfolio, please add to your existing portfolio. Your portfolio must demonstrate how milestones have been met in the program as “best work” and must be viewable by the nursing faculty.
You may also want to use this opportunity to begin a “growth and development” portfolio (p. 74) to keep examples of these “best works” artifacts. You may be as creative as you like, provided that you meet the guidelines. Contact me with questions or concerns.
NOTE: To add documents to your portfolio, you need to save the document(s) in your Ottawa University OneDrive storage. Provide a link that is viewable by anyone in the Sway. Be sure to link to the documents. If you upload a document in Sway, it will turn the content into Sway content (which you do not want for your portfolio).
Your portfolio must include the following components:
A descriiptive name such as “Your Name’s Professional Nursing Portfolio”.
Include images and backgrounds that emphasize your focus. Be careful that the design of your portfolio is professional and not too distracting.
Create the following sections:
Introduction: Include a brief biography describing who you are and a picture.
Resumé: Include your professional resume that summarizes your education, employment activities, professional organization membership, honors, and pertinent civic activities.
Certifications & Credentials: Include copies (or pictures) of your certifications such as CPR, ACLS, and a copy of your nursing license (as applicable).
Nursing Philosophy: You write a nursing philosophy in NRSG 7000. Update your philosophy and include it on this page. Be sure to summarize your beliefs and values regarding the nursing paradigm (person, environment, health, and nursing) as well as cultural sensitivity, spirituality, and your vision for advanced nursing practice.
Teaching Philosophy OR Leadership Philosophy: Leave this section blank for now.
Recognitions & Awards: Include any unsolicited documents including patient recognitions, letters of appreciation, awards, and/or scholarships. You can continue to add to this page throughout the rest of the MSN program.
Program Outcomes: Provide a page for each of the ten Program Student Learning Outcomes (PSLOs). You will add evidence of progress in meeting these outcomes throughout the MSN program.
AACN Essentials’ Competencies and Advanced Sub-competencies: Provide a list of the AACN Essentials’ Competencies and Advanced Sub-competencies. You will add evidence of progress meeting these outcomes throughout the MSN program.
Professional Competencies (Pick the appropriate option for your track): You will add evidence of progress in these competencies throughout your track.
Nurse Educator and Clinical Educator Track: Provide a list of the NLN Core Competencies for Nurse Educators.
Nurse Leader Competencies: Provide a list of the Nurse Leader Competencies.
Other: This page is for other valuable information about you.
Step 2: Submit your assignment
Export your Sway to a Word document. To do this, click the “…” menu and select “Export.” Then, select the option for a Word document. This will export the entire Sway presentation. I will be looking at sections a, b & d (Introduction, Resume, and Nursing Philosophy) in a Word document.
Click the “Share” menu to copy the link to your portfolio. Paste this link at the top of your document that is viewable by me and other nursing faculty. Submit this document for your assignment.
I am looking for quality content that is presented in a professional manner. Click the Grading rubric link to see the criteria I will use to assess your work and to compare your work to the rubric before submitting it.
