Do newsletter in a PowerPoint
Scenario: You are about to start an aesthetics unit in your fifth-grade class, and because it will be a somewhat new concept, you want to create and distribute a parents’ newsletter explaining what the unit will entail. Overall, you’d like your students to learn to be aesthetically sensitive, specifically, to look at their own artwork and that of others with openness and appreciation. You want to engage the children by relating artwork to play, using resources and activities that both teachers and parents of fifth graders can use.
Focus Assignment:
Create a newsletter for parents. First, explain why you think it is important to promote aesthetic development in children in two or three sentences. Then, describe at least three resources for play activities that parents and teachers can provide to encourage the development of aesthetic sensitivity in children. Refer to the box titled “Aesthetic Awareness in Young Children—Theorists’ Views” for an overview of the research in this area.

Be sure to read the SELF-EVALUATION section below to guide your thinking. Write your self-evaluation after you have completed your newsletter.

Review the assessment rubric to see how your assignment and self-evaluation will be graded.
