Everything we touch that is electronic has a Human to Computer Interface (HCI). Some companies put a lot of effort into the user experience; others, not so much. Some HCIs are very complex with enormous functionality (computer operating systems and smartphones), and some are much simpler (ATMs, gas station pumps, lottery ticket machines, movie dispensing machines).
For this assignment, you will choose an HCI, interact with it, and review it.
Preparation
Most of this assignment is hands-on. Before you begin, you will need to pick an interface to explore, one you can physically touch or virtually visit. Choose either a simple interface (one with few options) or a singular function of a more complex item (like a singular function of your smartphone, such as to create and send an email). Remember that there are several options for many of these. Keep your selection to something simple, as you will find there are many options even in a simple task.
Once you’ve chosen an interface, take a picture or capture a screenshot of it. Then, work your way through the process of completing a task using your chosen interface, and record all the options and steps you encounter from the beginning of the process to the completion of the task.
Assignment steps 2-5 below are based on this preparation.

Write a paper in which you include the following:
Research the history and background of HCI, in general, and write a 1-page summary.
Capture a screenshot or take a picture of the interface and describe its interface.
List all the steps and options that are available to use with your chosen interface to complete a task.
Build an activity diagram that includes actions and events involved with your chosen HCI to show the process from beginning to end.

Reference Figure 6-21 in your textbook for an example.

Write a review of the interface by explaining your likes, dislikes, and supporting commentary about the design.
