For the purposes of this assignment, I want you to essentially “translate” a peer-reviewed article into something more concise that still explains the point of the article. 600 words (2-ish pages) could be something like 3-5 paragraphs. A potential layout for your press release might be:
Paragraph 1 (maybe also Paragraph 2, depending on content): Summarize the background literature. Frame the context of why the study was done.
Paragraph 2: Describe the present study (or studies). Here you could mention pertinent details of the methods (e.g., which tasks were used, what surveys/scales were used, whom or what were studied, etc.)
Paragraph 3: Describe the results; was anything significant? What sort of analyses were conducted?
Paragraph 4: What do the results actually mean? Contextualize the findings within the broader scope of the literature, and tell the audience how these findings can be used in future studies or applied in future situations.
When I say “APA 7th edition,” I mean stick to things like Times New Roman (or another accepted font), 12 pt, 1 inch margins, etc. Your press release doesn’t need things like a separate title page, abstract, keywords, or headings. Your press release SHOULD contain a separate references page, with at least the assigned article properly listed, as well as any other articles you might cite.
