Interview someone who immigrated to the United States or someone who can provide details about a family member who did so.
The interview should cover the person’s national background, their reason for immigrating, the process of entering the United Sates, and their current legal status in United States.
If the interviewee is willing to compare their life prior to immigrating with their life in the United States, that would be desirable to include.
Discuss the above information in the context of current public concerns about:
the status of undocumented immigrants
admitting refugees for resettlement
consider the NASW Code of Ethics, and discuss its implications for how social workers should respond to these public concerns. (You can consult the NASW website to explore the organization’s position on this topic).
