RESEARCH ARTICLE REVIEW: QUANTITATIVE ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS
OVERVIEW
In order to keep current with public health research, the public health professional must read and
critically evaluate current public health research on an ongoing basis. This includes quantitative
research performed on public health issues.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Choose 1 peer-reviewed article on any topic of your choice to review. The article must
include community-based participatory research (CBPR) and have a quantitative
research methods component.
2. Your article review must include:
a. Study objective(s)
b. Study design
c. Summary of study methods: data collection, analysis, inclusion/exclusion criteria,
etc. Be sure to describe quantitative research methods.
d. Summary of study results/findings
e. Study strengths and limitations
f. Your personal rating of the quality of the study (poor, good, excellent) and reason
for your rating
g. Study citation
3. Your review must be concise and under 500 words.
By successfully completing this assignment the student will have demonstrated the ability to
evaluate a quantitative research article on the following:
• Study objective(s)
• Study design
• Study methods: data collection, analysis, inclusion/exclusion criteria
• Study results/findings
• Study strengths and limitation
