This week’s topic is learning, but not in the traditional sense of learning for education. Instead, we discussed the concept of conditioning as proposed by behaviorists. Remember, behaviorists DO NOT LIKE mental processes because they are too biased and subjective. Therefore, they are ignored completely. Instead, they rely on observable behavior. This means that any examples using only emotions, such as happiness, cannot be used. However, what is the expressed behavior that can be observed that might indicate happiness?
For this assignment:
Explain the concepts of classical and operant conditioning:
Within your assignment, fully explain how each type of conditioning works by breaking them down. In other words, explain how classical conditioning relies on associations with a stimulus and how operant conditioning relies on consequences or outcomes.
Present an example of each type of conditioning:
When presenting examples, clearly label the unconditioned stimulus (US), unconditioned response (UR), conditioned stimulus (CS), and conditioned response (CR) for classical conditioning; and positive and negative types of both reinforcers and punishers for operant conditioning.
Note: Examples should be original and cannot be the same examples used in the textbook, the powerpoint, or from the class lecture. Points will be deducted for “recycled” examples.
