Using the objectives defined by the rubric, reflect on the reading and the activity we did in class (I included the activity percussion video we did)
Read the chapter “What does it Mean to be a Learner?” in Arts Integration by Merryl Goldberg and reflect on the workshop/lesson plan “Percussion Pictures”, including your experience with that adapted activities for asynchronous learning in last week’s module. When you discuss the “Percussion Pictures” workshop/lesson plan, remember to consider how the activity would function in a third grade classroom.
Make sure to include the following:
Describe the activity fully for a reader who did not experience it.
Include a descriiption of each phase of the activity, including the introduction, individual visual arts activity, group music activity, group share & reflection (a.k.a. critique)
Discuss how learning took place throughout each phase of the lesson.
How did the arts and the academic content work together to enhance learning?
How did the arts specifically support the ELA goals in this lesson plan
How did the activities in this lesson plan contribute to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment?
Connect the assigned reading to your reflection, and be sure to include 3-4 quotes.
Briefly describe how you will apply the ideas from the reading and the class activity to your future teaching.
Your Response Paper should be 3-4 pages long.
*A successful paper will use 3-4 examples from the Goldberg text to support the author’s analysis. You may also refer to the video of Bobby McFerrin at the World Science festival, https://youtu.be/ne6tB2KiZuk and/or include quotes from the OnBeing interview with Bobby McFerrin or the blog post by Bonni Stachowiak, https://onbeing.org/programs/bobby-mcferrin-catching-song/ if you are inspired to do so.
Thank you so much !
