Case Reflection Paper Reflection Papers:
A reflection paper, in the context of graduate marketing students analyzing case studies, is a written exercise that encourages students to engage deeply with the material by integrating their personal insights, academic knowledge, and critical thinking skills.
Each assigned case study will require a reflection paper (unless your group is presenting).
There is no maximum length for your reflection, however it is suggested to write approximately 1 page of reflection for each case study.
For weeks when you are not presenting with your group in class, you are required to submit a reflection paper. The reflection should include your personal analysis, insights, and critical evaluation of the assigned case study.
The goal of a reflection paper is to encourage graduate students to think deeply and critically about the case studies they are studying. It challenges MSMA students to go beyond the surface details and explore the underlying marketing principles, their application in the real world, and how these insights can be leveraged in your future career.
Submission Requirements:
Set 1: Case Studies 1-4 (due October 10th) (NOTE FOR STUDYPOOL TUTOR: my group already presented case 1, so it is excluded from this assignment – that means a case reflection paper approx. 1 page is required for only 3 cases in this assignment rather than 4)
Writing a Reflection Paper:
Follow these guidelines when writing your reflection papers.
Provide a brief summary of the case study, highlighting key points, challenges, and outcomes.
Evaluate the case (critical analysis) by examining the decisions made, the effectiveness of the strategies employed, and any alternatives that could have been considered.
Relate the case study to the weekly topic, readings, and lecture content. Demonstrate how the theoretical concepts apply to the practical scenario presented in the case. Make a connection to the course and MSMA program material.
Reflect on what you learned from the case study. Discuss how it influences your understanding of marketing strategies and decision-making. What is your personal insight?
Consider what you learned from the case study. Discuss how it affects your understanding of marketing and how it might influence your future professional practice.
In your conclusion, Summarize your thoughts, emphasizing the key takeaways from the case study and their relevance to real-world marketing practices.
Each reflection paper should be approximately 1 page in length, double-spaced, and formatted according to APA guidelines. You may write more if you choose.
How to write a reflection paper:
Personal Engagement is a Key Aspects of a Reflection Paper:
Unlike a traditional academic paper that may focus solely on summarization or theoretical analysis, a reflection paper invites students to express their personal viewpoints. This means relating the case study to your own experiences, perspectives, and understanding of marketing concepts. What does this case mean for todays digitally driven economy?
Reflection papers require you to move beyond mere description. You must analyze and critique the case study, questioning the decisions made, the strategies employed, and the outcomes achieved. Here, you will exercise critical thinking.
A strong reflection paper connects the specific case study to broader marketing theories and concepts discussed in class. This might include drawing parallels between the case and textbook material, lectures, or other academic readings. This is your opportunity to integrate the subject with MSMA and marketing coursework/content.
