Designs that evoke strong emotions
Sometimes, a design will evoke strong emotions, like excitement, satisfaction or frustration. When that happens, take a moment to ask yourself “why?” It can help you figure out what motivates you, and it might give you an idea of what you want to do in the future. It can also lead to some great ideas, when you try to evoke the same emotions with your own work.
Find two designs:
One that evokes a strong positive emotion for you, like excitement or happiness.
One that evokes a strong negative emotion for you, like boredom or frustration.
Both designs should be related to what you’re studying, or what you want to do when you finish your studies.
Make a journal entry about these designs. This activity is mostly for you. Use words and images to organize your thoughts and understand why you feel this way about these designs.
Please include this information for each design:
An image of the design
What is it? What does it do?
How do you feel about it? Why?
Can you imagine yourself using it? What would that be like?
Can you imagine yourself making it? What would that experience be like?
If you wanted to find more information about this design (like who designed it, and what else they designed), where would you look?
