Executive Summary: In Search of Leadership Excellence *Requires Pre-Planning
Identify and evaluate characteristics of leadership that promote excellence in organizational outcomes of care delivery, fiscal accountability, and professional growth of the nurse leader as well as others. Interview 3 Nurse Executives – Chief Nurses with an MSN requested, in some cases the interview may be with a leader at an Administrative Director Level (Requires CI approval), depending on the type of Health Care Organization in which students complete the interview. Obtain permission from your Clinical Instructor if your interviewee is not an executive – Chief Nursing Officer or Vice President with nursing reporting in a Health Care Organization, or if they do not have an MSN (approvals are usually given for leaders with an MBA or MHA). The minimal level of leader for the interview is a leader with the title of Nursing Director (Requires CI approval). The interview is expected to occur face to face, which may be in person or a Zoom-type format. In your report, include names and credentials. Correlate assessment and analysis of the literature in sections B, C, D, E.
You may use a Nurse Executive in your organization; however, all students are urged to go “outside” their workplace and interview Nurse Execs in other health care organizations.
