The final exam for this course will be a Passion Paper (Approximately 3 double-spaced, 12pt font, clear, well-written pages)
Directions: Think of one interest or topic you are passionate about and how you could connect that passion to making your classroom a more positive, learning-focused environment. Incorporating your passion can be motivating for both you as the teacher and your students! For example, if you have a passion for reading, you might think of more creative opportunities built into your classroom environment for students to read throughout the day or to incorporate more outside-the-box reading-focused activities. If you love being outdoors, you might consider how to have more outdoor classroom experiences or bring the outdoors in! Or, if you enjoy a specific sport, how to incorporate that sport and more physical activity into the day in a way that positively engages students.
As you write this paper, think about what you have learned in this class about building positive learning environments (i.e., antecedents and strategies for increasing desired behavior; setting students up for success) and motivating students (i.e., teaching appropriate skills, using reinforcer strategies).
Explain how you believe incorporating this passion into your classroom …
(a) will improve the focus on positive behavior,
(b) will increase learning of skills, and
(c) will create an overall supportive environment for students in your classroom.
And, for each of the above explanations, tie in how the idea connects with a concept, principle, or strategy we have learned in class about behavior analysis. Please cite sources (i.e., textbook) as appropriate.
This is your final exam. Please use graduate level academic writing. You must use your own words throughout this paper – do not directly copy text from a source. You should cite sources when discussing specific content/examples you have learned. For example, if you discuss noncontingent reinforcement, you might cite the textbook as (Alberto & Troutman, p. 261). Citing does not mean to copy the text directly – please summarize or paraphrase specific content in your own words.
Be thoughtful and provide insightful written discussion that displays your understanding of the importance to create a positive educational environment and of your knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis as learned in this class. Provide specific details and examples to support your paper.
Please Note: Organize your paper with the headings below to make it clear you have addressed all components and to make it easier to read. Your paper should be submitted as a word document, 12pt font, double-spaced, and be approx. 3 pages in length.
So, in summary, the components to address in this paper and corresponding points are –
A brief descriiption of your passion and why it is important to you (5 points)
A discussion on how you believe incorporating this passion into your classroom will – (45 points)
(a) improve the focus on positive behavior
(b) increase learning of skills, and
(c) create an overall supportive environment for students in your classroom.
Build into this discussion a connection to at least 3 behavior analysis concepts, principles, or strategies learned from this class. (30 points)
Academic Writing (20 points) – Use your own words and provide citations to sources for specific examples and strategies. This paper should be clear, organized, and well-written with minimal typos or errors in grammar and spelling. Reread and edit before submitting.
