To analyze how technological changes have affected your choices in music and other audio programming.
Background:
The history of music is long and varied, and it has profoundly impacted societies throughout the ages. Music has been a form of cultural expression and communication for millennia, and has played a significant role in shaping social, political, and religious movements.
Music’s history can be traced back to ancient times when music was an integral part of cultural and religious practices. In ancient times, music was primarily transmitted through oral traditions until the development of musical notation in the Middle Ages allowed for music to be preserved and disseminated. Further dissemination of music happened with the invention of the printing press in the 15th century.
The advent of recorded music in the late 19th century revolutionized how people accessed music. The first recordings used wax cylinders to capture sound that could be played on phonographs. Later, vinyl records became the dominant format for recorded music, as did 8-track tapes, cassettes, compact disks, and digital formats like MP3s.
With the rise of the internet, accessing music has become even easier. Streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal allow users to access millions of songs at their fingertips. Online platforms like YouTube, SoundCloud, and TikTok have made it possible for artists to distribute their music directly to fans.

Digital technologies have fragmented media audiences. What are some of the technologies that our textbook didn’t discuss, and how might they be allowing more and different voices to be heard?
How do changes in your choices of music and other forms of audio entertainment reflect cultural and economic trends in the music and radio industries?
Complete your response by connecting your ideas to the course content that you were asked to read and use American Psychological Association-style in-text citations and end-of-text references. If you are unfamiliar with that reference style, you can find examples in our library as APA 7th Edition Citation Examples: General Rules.
